Cookies and storage
Last updated: 2026-09-09
DanskThe short version
The toilet finder sets no cookies. Search, filters, facility pages, reports — everything works with cookies and site storage fully blocked.
What we store on your device
One thing only: your consent decision, if you make one, is stored in your browser’s local storage under the key “pt-consent” — a small JSON record of which non-essential categories you allowed and when. It is not a cookie and is never transmitted to our server with requests; blocking it simply keeps every non-essential feature off, which is the safe default anyway.
Non-essential categories require consent
Advertising and analytics storage is only set — and its scripts only loaded — after your explicit consent, recorded through a Google-certified consent management platform as required for EEA and UK visitors. Saying no is exactly as easy as saying yes: same prominence, same number of steps. Without consent nothing non-essential loads, and the site loses no core functionality.
Consent alone is never enough: the deployment’s server-side feature flags must also be switched on, so a granted consent can never load something the operators have not enabled.
On this deployment, both analytics and advertising are currently switched off at the flag level, so nothing non-essential can load regardless of consent.
Vendor categories
The complete list of who could ever place anything in your browser, and under which conditions:
| Category | Purpose | Storage on your device | Requires consent | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary (consent record) | Remembers your consent choice — including a refusal. | Local storage key “pt-consent”; no cookies. | No | Until you clear site data; consent is re-asked at least every 13 months. |
| Consent management (planned; Google-certified CMP) | Asks for and records your choice (required for EEA/UK advertising traffic). | The CMP’s own consent record, set when the banner ships. | No | Consent lifetime at most 13 months before re-asking. |
| Analytics (consent-gated; none active today) | Coarse, privacy-conscious measurement of pages and outcomes. | Only the analytics tool’s storage, set only after consent. | Yes | Documented in the event list before any activation. |
| Advertising (Google AdSense; consent-gated) | Funds the free service; never near map controls or core actions. | Google advertising cookies, set only after consent via the CMP. | Yes | Per Google’s ad-cookie policies. |
| Email (Maileroo) | One report receipt when you volunteer an address; moderator alerts. | None in your browser — server-side delivery only. | No | Not applicable; no browser storage exists. |
Changing your mind
When the consent banner ships, you can change or withdraw your choice from it at any time. Today, with no CMP active yet, clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes the consent record — and nothing else exists to remove. Refusing everything is a fully supported state, and the toilet finder never notices the difference.
